Captain Brijesh Chowta is the Member of Parliament for Dakshina Kannada in the Lok Sabha. A Fauji by training and conviction, he brings to public life the values of discipline, service and leadership - shaped by his years in the Indian Army and a lifelong association with grassroots nation-building.
After the Army, he pursued a management programme at the Indian Institute of Management, Indore in 2011, before returning to his roots in coastal Karnataka. That Back to Ooru journey began both his entrepreneurial pursuits and his organisational work in the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Captain Brijesh Chowta's story runs from the forward posts of the North-East to the shores of Dakshina Kannada. A soldier by training and a karyakarta by conviction, he has spent two decades in the service of the nation - first in uniform, then in the organisation, and now in Parliament.
He served in the 7th Battalion, 8 Gorkha Rifles from 2003 to 2011, studied management at IIM Indore, and returned home on a Back to Ooru journey that began his work as an entrepreneur and a party organiser. Today, he represents Dakshina Kannada in the 18th Lok Sabha.
A journey shaped by service, organisation and public responsibility.
Before entering politics, Captain Chowta served in the 7th Battalion of the 8 Gorkha Rifles, following in the footsteps of his idol, Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. From 2003 to 2011 he served across North and North-Eastern India, including counter-insurgency operations in Assam and Manipur.
His years in uniform instilled in him the values of discipline, resilience and service.
A swayamsevak and karyakarta since childhood, Captain Chowta's public life has been deeply shaped by the values of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. He has since carried a series of organisational responsibilities within the party.
As a Member of Parliament, Captain Chowta has consistently championed the aspirations of Dakshina Kannada - with a focus on infrastructure, maritime and port-led development, entrepreneurship, tourism, heritage conservation and employment generation.
His vision is one of balanced growth that preserves the region's unique cultural identity while creating new opportunities for future generations.

Taking India's message on terrorism to the world
Capt. Brijesh Chowta was selected as a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Delegation constituted after Operation Sindoor, to take India's position on terrorism and national security to the international community.
Led by Smt. Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, the delegation comprised Members of Parliament from across political parties and travelled to Russia, Slovenia, Greece, Latvia and Spain - engaging parliamentarians, political leaders, diplomats, media, think tanks and the Indian diaspora. It presented India's position of zero tolerance towards terrorism, explained the calibrated response under Operation Sindoor, and underlined that terrorism must never be justified, normalised or allowed to dictate the course of international relations.
For Capt. Chowta, the assignment brought together his years as an Army officer and his role as a Member of Parliament - allowing him to place India's security concerns and its position on cross-border terrorism before international audiences.
Representing India at the United Nations
Capt. Brijesh Chowta was selected as a member of the Indian Parliamentary Delegation to the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, led by Shri P. P. Chaudhary - part of an effort to strengthen India's parliamentary engagement with the United Nations.
On 8 October 2025, he delivered India's statement before the UN's Second Committee (Economic & Financial), addressing countries in special situations, sustainable development and international cooperation - and highlighting India's contribution to South-South and triangular cooperation, including the India-UN Development Partnership Fund and the ITEC programme.
The assignment extended his parliamentary responsibilities to a global institution, bringing a perspective shaped by national service to India's engagement with the Global South.
A selection of local issues Captain Chowta has raised on the floor of the Lok Sabha under Rule 377, the provision reserved for matters of urgent public importance, and the ministries they were addressed to.
